IM SCHATTEN EUROPAS

IM SCHATTEN EUROPAS

63 Min (GER) 2015 – STEREO

In 2014, when few people in Germany were interested in the refugee issue, a small group of politically committed filmmakers set off on a journey with journalist and peace activist Elias Bierdel to see with their own eyes what was brewing on the edges of Europe. The search for clues leads from the Greek island of Lesbos to Lampedusa, from the European city of Ceuta to Sicily. It tells of moving encounters and experiences of people on the run – and of the absurdity of European freedom of travel in comparison to the isolationist society.

The film team accompanies Elias Bierdel, who describes his view of the current situation and his thoughts on it. He takes us to places and people who reflect on the past and future of European borders: Migration cannot be stopped, has always been part of world history and always will be. The crucial question is how we deal with it.
