The father looks into the camera: “What do you see?” – “You,” says the daughter. It is the last picture that will be taken of the father, because a short time later, in the summer of 1956, he is dead. In his place, daughter Johanna (Jana McKinnon) takes on the task of documenting the family’s life with the Super 8 camera she inherited. There is a lot to see: Johanna, her mother and sister move in with her grandmother (Andrea Schramek) in a middle-class Viennese apartment in an old building, where relatives gather not only for birthdays and Christmas. The camera’s gaze sweeps over heads and faces in a seemingly amateurish manner. He captures close-ups of grandmother’s bread dumplings as well as the faces of the family in jerky, torn movements. From time to time, a group of young women gather in Grandma’s kitchen, ostensibly to cook.
